One of our most frequently asked questions from patients and families living with Inherited Metabolic Disorders is: ‘where can I get suitable travel insurance, so that I can travel abroad?’
Inherited Metabolic Disorders are complex conditions affecting patients in many different ways. It can be difficult to find suitable and affordable cover when it comes to getting travel insurance with a pre-existing condition that is not widely recognised. As Inherited Metabolic Disorders are so rare, it is difficult for travel insurers to understand the specific needs of patients.
With the help of our metabolic community, we have have put together the following information to help you find the right travel insurance policy to suit you and your individual needs.
Contact as many insurance companies as you can, as the costs and criteria can be very different. It may be easier to explain your condition to insurers by telephone. Make sure that you declare all details of your Inherited Metabolic Disorder, failure to do so may result in the policy being declared invalid should you need to make a claim
